CA urges US firms to invest more in BD

Chief Adviser to the Interim Government Prof Muhammad Yunus has called on top US companies to expand their investments in Bangladesh.
He came up with the remarks while addressing the US-Bangladesh Executive Business Roundtable in New York on Wednesday, CA office said.

The roundtable, titled “Advancing Reform, Resilience and Growth,” was hosted by the US-Bangladesh Business Council (USBBC) and attended by senior executives from major US firms including MetLife, Chevron, and Excelerate Energy.

At the event, Yunus introduced six Bangladeshi political leaders accompanying him during his US visit to the American business community.

The delegation included BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP leader Humayun Kabir, Jamaat-e-Islami Nayeb-e-Ameer Syeed Abdullah Muhammad Taher, Jamaat leader Mohammad Nakibur Rahman, National Citizen Party (NCP) Member Secretary Akhter Hossen, and NCP First Senior Joint Member Secretary Dr Tasnim Jara.

Speaking to reporters, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam said Yunus urged the US companies to deepen their engagement in Bangladesh, while also noting that a new political government would be formed through a fair election scheduled for February next year.

“It was a big meeting. Chief Adviser spoke and called upon US companies to invest more in Bangladesh,” Alam said.

Jamaat leader Taher welcomed the initiative, saying US investors expressed encouragement during the discussion.

Foreign Affairs Adviser Md Touhid Hossain, Energy Adviser Fouzul Kabir Khan, and senior USBBC leaders were also present at the meeting.
