Labour and Employment Adviser Brigadier General (Retd) Dr M Sakhawat Hossain has urged Azerbaijan to expand the recruitment of skilled manpower from Bangladesh during a bilateral meeting with Anar Aliyev, the country’s Minister of Labor and Social Security, in Baku.
According to a PID release issued on Thursday, the two sides discussed several matters including better living conditions for Bangladeshi workers, workplace safety, streamlined visa procedures, and other facilities.
Dr Sakhawat stressed the need for enhanced technical cooperation to safeguard the rights and welfare of Bangladeshi workers in Azerbaijan. He also underlined the importance of stronger collaboration among member states of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
The Adviser further requested that Azerbaijan invest in Bangladesh’s special economic zones while also recruiting more skilled workers. He extended an invitation to Minister Aliyev to visit Dhaka.
In response, the Azerbaijani minister suggested establishing a joint working group-comprising officials from both nations-to promote cooperation in the fields of labor and investment. He also urged Bangladesh to expedite the ratification of the OIC Labor Statute, highlighting its significance for boosting mutual engagement.
The release noted that the meeting is being regarded as a landmark step toward expanding bilateral ties, particularly in the areas of overseas employment and investment.
