Staff Reporter :
The government has once again extended the timeframe for the six-member review committee, headed by Law Adviser Asif Nazrul, to submit its recommendations on the progress of the 2016 Bangladesh Bank reserve theft investigation.
According to a Cabinet Division notification issued on Tuesday, the deadline has now been pushed back to 31 October.
The Asif Nazrul-led body was constituted on 11 March to examine issues related to the reserve heist. At the time of its formation, the committee was asked to submit its report within three months. The deadline was later extended to 30 September, and has now been revised once more.
Apart from Asif Nazrul, the committee includes Adviser Muhammad Fouzul Kabir Khan, Chief Adviser’s Special Assistant Faiz Ahmed Taiyeb, Bangladesh Bank Governor Ahsan H Mansur, Biman Bangladesh Airlines Director Ali Ashfaq, and Rupali Bank Chairman Nazrul Huda.
The panel’s mandate is to review the progress of ongoing investigations into the reserve heist, evaluate the steps taken by the government in this regard, identify responsibility for the incident, and provide recommendations to prevent such occurrences in the future.
