3,261 more crime suspects held in 48 hrs

Staff Reporter :

The ongoing countrywide special operation against crime continues to intensify, with police detaining 3,261 additional suspects over the past 48 hours, according to a statement issued by the Police Headquarters on Tuesday night.

Of the detainees, 2,131 individuals were apprehended in connection with previously filed cases and long-pending arrest warrants, while another 1,130 were taken into custody on various fresh charges, including extortion, robbery, narcotics trade, and other criminal activities.

Law enforcement officials also seized a significant cache of weapons and explosives during the drives, including one foreign-made local light gun (LG), one revolver, a single-barrel gun, two bottles of gunpowder, a container of liquid chemical, and several sharp weapons.

This development comes on the heels of the earlier wave of mass arrests launched last week, during which police had already rounded up several thousand individuals across the country in a bid to restore law and order. Security forces have said the coordinated operation will continue in the coming days, with special attention to crime-prone zones, to curb the rise of organized gangs and ensure public safety ahead of the upcoming national events.
