New York Police Detain Juba League Leader Mizanur Rahman for Egg-Hurling Incident In Jackson Heights

Authorities in New York have detained Juba League leader Mizanur Rahman after eggs were thrown at Akhter Hossen, the secretary-general of the National Citizen Party (NCP), outside John F. Kennedy International Airport.

Rahman was taken into custody Monday night (New York local time) in front of Nabanna Restaurant in Jackson Heights. Officers identified him, surrounded him, questioned him, and placed him in handcuffs before arresting him.

Earlier in the day, Awami League supporters had pelted eggs at Akhter upon his arrival at the airport as part of a delegation led by Chief Adviser Professor Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who was attending the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.

According to sources, an Emirates flight carrying the Chief Adviser and his entourage touched down at JFK on Monday afternoon. After a brief delay in deplaning, BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir, BNP acting chairman’s foreign affairs adviser Humayun Kabir, NCP leader Akhter Hossen, and NCP senior joint secretary Tasnim Jara faced chants from Awami League and Juba League activists.

Security personnel from the Chief Adviser’s press wing, along with several BNP supporters, stepped in to escort them safely. During the disruption, eggs were hurled at Akhter Hossen and Tasnim Jara, who were subjected to shouted obscenities. In response, Akhter declared, “Inquilab Zindabad.” With police assistance, the delegation ultimately departed the airport by car.
