Govt to distribute textbooks on time: Salehuddin
Staff Reporter :
Finance Adviser Dr. Salehuddin Ahmed has assured that the government will complete the distribution of school textbooks by January next year.
Speaking to reporters on Sunday after meetings of the Cabinet Committee on Public Procurement and the Cabinet Committee on Economic Affairs at the Secretariat, Dr. Salehuddin said, “Orders have already been placed for the printing of textbooks for certain classes.
At present, the authorities are cross-checking the list of eligible institutions to ensure that no school receives allocations more than once and that those previously involved in irregularities are excluded.”
Responding to a question, the adviser explained that the government wants schools that received books in previous years to continue to get them properly this time as well.
However, he noted that the authorities are also investigating allegations that some institutions might have collected more books than they required.
“We are determined to finalise the list within the next two weeks so that books can be distributed according to the schedule,” Dr. Salehuddin added.
“Our ultimate goal is to make sure that all students have their textbooks in hand by January 1.”
