Asst pry teachers to receive higher grades

Staff Reporter :

Assistant teachers working in government primary schools across Bangladesh will now qualify for higher pay grades after completing 10 and 16 years in service.

The Ministry of Primary and Mass Education issued a directive to this effect through a letter signed by Joint Secretary of School Branch-2, Rebeka Sultana.

The letter instructed the Directorate of Primary and Mass Education to begin the processof granting the pay scale benefits to eligible assistant teachers.

The directive follows the Finance Division’s opinion on the matter, which referred to paragraph 7 of the National Pay Scale 2015.

According to this provision, if the basic pay scale of a post is upgraded, further grade advancement within the same post may be granted after an additional 10 years of service, without requiring a formal promotion.

This initiative comes on the heels of a major pay reform introduced in November last year, under which the salaries of more than 354,000 teachers in over 65,000 government primary schools were revised.

At that time, head teachers were placed at Grade 11, while assistant teachers were positioned at Grade 13. The new measure is expected to further improve the career progression and financial security of assistant teachers, recognizing their long-term contributions to the primary education sector.
