Case filed after 4 months in connection with attack on UP chairman in Sylhet

A case has been filed at the police station nearly 4 and a half months after the attack on Kabir Hossain Dhala Mia, the four-time chairman of Lamakaji Union Parishad in Bishwanath Upazila of Sylhet. On Wednesday (September 19) night, Dhala Mia filed a case at the Bishwanath Police Station against 14 people, including 12/13 others, as the plaintiff.
The accused in the case are Raihan Ahmed (30), son of Makhlis Ali of Shahjirgaon village in the upazila, Suzel Mia (28), son of Abdul Khalik of Janaiya village in the same upazila, Rupa Mia (25), son of Tutu Mia, Abdur Rahman (35), son of the late Abdul Jabbar of Ramdhana village, Sohag Mia (28), son of Chamchu Mia Lala of the same village, Abu Sufian (47), son of Arjumand Ali of Shimultala village.
In addition, Amjad Ali (30), son of Alkas Ali of Rajnagar village, Shamim Ahmed, son of Arash Ali of the same village (28), Sebul Mia (30), son of Firoz Ali, Shakil Ahmed (30), son of Manaf Mia, Kamran Ahmed (30), son of Abdul Kadir of Tukerkandi village, Moinul Islam (37), son of Tera Mia of Tengra village, Azad Mia (30), son of Abdus Salam of Baro Khurma village, Abdul Moshabbir (35), son of the deceased Rashid Ali of the same village.
The statement mentioned that the plaintiff is a 4-time elected UP chairman of Lamakaji Union Parishad of the upazila and a former organizing secretary of the upazila BNP. On April 28, the plaintiff was present at the monthly law and order and coordination meeting of the upazila Parishad. Among other things, the plaintiff presented a very strong statement against drugs and smuggling.
At the end of the meeting, around 2 pm, the plaintiff arrived in front of the Muktijoddha Market in a CNG-powered auto-rickshaw about 300 feet from the main gate in front of the upazila Parishad. The accused, who were involved in drug and smuggling, illegally gathered in a crowd and armed themselves with domestic weapons and stopped the plaintiff. At that time, they forcibly removed him from the CNG and attacked him with the intention of killing him.
The plaintiff was injured in this. At that time, the accused recorded a video of the incident on their mobile phones and circulated it online using fake IDs. The plaintiff mentioned in the statement that the accused snatched the plaintiff’s mobile phone, British 1,000 pounds (160,000 in Bangladeshi taka), and another 50,000 taka.
Admitting the fact of filing the case, Bishwanath Police Station Officer-in-Charge Enamul Haque Chowdhury said that the operation to arrest the accused is continuing.
