Times Square is often referred to as the heart of New York. In this iconic center, the 4th New York International Trade Fair and Chamber Expo 2025 will kick off on Friday, September 26, at the Marriott Marquis Hotel. But this event isn’t just about glitz and glamour — hidden within it lies a stepping stone for Bangladesh’s expansion into the global market.

Organized jointly by the Greater New York Chamber of Commerce and the Bangladesh-USA Chamber of Commerce and Industries, this annual event has been held regularly since 2022. This year’s theme is: “Creating Economic Opportunities, Shaping a Better Future Together.” The slogan itself reflects a forward-looking, next-generation business mindset.

As in previous years, Bangladesh will remain a focal point of discussion. Special emphasis will be placed on three key sectors: the garment industry, information technology, and jute. These sectors collectively present a reflection of the country’s export potential. Once known solely for its garment exports, Bangladesh is now making waves globally with jute-based products and is eyeing entry into new markets in the tech sector.

The opening ceremony will feature key figures from the American mainstream, including New York Governor Kathy Hochul, U.S. Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, SBA Administrator Kelly Loeffler, and Deputy Secretary of Commerce Paul Dabbar. Their presence highlights that the event extends beyond the Bangladeshi diaspora — it has drawn the attention of America’s economic leadership.

For the first time, a 10-member delegation from the European Union will be participating. Industrialists, entrepreneurs, and policymakers from Italy, the UK, Scotland, and Poland are expected to attend.

For Bangladeshi expatriates, this event is more than just a trade exhibition. It is a platform for young entrepreneurs to understand global market trends, connect with international investors, and showcase Bangladesh’s promising sectors in a new light. Alongside 200+ U.S.-based booths, the expo will feature two companies from Bangladesh’s ready-made garment industry. High-Level Delegation from Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association (BGMEA), led by the President of BGMEA, will participate. Senior representatives from several of Bangladesh’s most advanced and sustainable garment factories will also be present, offering insight into the country’s global leadership in eco-friendly apparel manufacturing.

Since former President Donald Trump’s administration introduced new tariff policies, countries around the world have had to restructure their trade relations with the U.S. In this changing landscape, the New York International Trade Fair and Chamber Expo is being seen as an opportunity to strengthen Bangladesh-U.S. trade relations.

While Bangladesh’s garment industry has already built a level of trust in international markets, the country is now exploring new frontiers in jute, leather, information technology, and agriculture-based products. The New York International Trade Fair serves as a bridge to that future journey.

Expatriate Bangladeshis are now building a new identity not just in cultural or social fields, but in business and trade as well. The New York International Trade Fair is a matter of pride for them. It shows that Bangladeshis are no longer just a labor force — they are becoming creative leaders in the global economy. Once, expatriates represented Bangladesh through music, poetry, and cultural events. Today, they are showcasing the nation on the global economic stage. This expo is not just a trade fair — it is a symbol of Bangladeshi dreams, dedication, and confidence.

Dr. Ziauddin Ahmed, Convener of the New York International Trade Fair and Chamber Expo 2025, has called upon Bangladeshi businesses and young entrepreneurs to participate and seize this unique global opportunity.
