A conflict has emerged within BNP over the formation of a 67-member Tangail District Truck Owners’ Association committee. One faction formed the committee on September 3, naming former BNP leaders Kazi Shafiqul Rahman Liton and Ashraf Paheli as president and general secretary.
At a press conference held Saturday at Tangail Press Club, the opposing group rejected the committee as undemocratic and termed it a “pocket committee” that excludes real truck owners and includes ruling party affiliates.
They demanded its dissolution within seven working days, threatening to suspend all truck operations in the district if their demands are not met. BNP’s Tangail town president Mehedi Hasan Aleem and several truck owners were present.
