Wife killed by husband with sharp weapon in Joypurhat: Murderer husband arrested

A wife was murdered by her husband after being stabbed to death by a sharp weapon due to a family dispute. The murder took place sometime on Friday night in Tajpur village of Joypurhat Sadar Upazila. On Saturday (September 13), around 10 am, police recovered the body of Rokeya Begum from her house in Boro Tajpur village of Puranapoil Union of Sadar Upazila. Police have arrested the murderer, her husband Zahir Uddin, from his house.
Police said that after a quarrel between the husband and wife on Friday night, Zahir Uddin hit his wife on the left side of the head with a sharp weapon while she was sleeping in the morning. Rokeya Begum died on the spot. After the murder, Zahir Uddin tried to commit suicide by electrocution and became seriously ill. Later, the police arrested him and admitted him to Joypurhat General Hospital.
Locals said that the couple often got into arguments during their married life. Zahir Uddin beat his wife almost every day. One of their sons drove a rickshaw in Dhaka, while the son’s wife lived abroad. Rokeya Begum and Zahir Uddin lived in a village house with their two grandchildren.
Upon receiving the information, the police recovered the body of the deceased from the scene and sent it to the Joypurhat General Hospital morgue for autopsy. The sharp weapon used in the murder was also recovered.
Joypurhat Police Station Inspector (Investigation) Nazmul Quader said, “The deceased was hit on the left side of the head with a sharp weapon. Part of her ear was also cut off. The husband has been arrested and is currently undergoing treatment at the hospital under police guard. A case is under process in this incident.”
