Traffic in Kuril area of the capital came to a complete halt on Thursday after employees of Eurozone Fashions blocked the flyover and the nearby roads demanding payment of pending wages.
Gulshan Traffic Division’s Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Ziaur Rahman told reporters that the protest compelled vehicles completely stranded on the flyover.
The situation worsened as workers also occupied the entrance to the Elevated Expressway, causing heavy congestion on adjacent roads.
“Similar protests by garment workers have occurred in the past. At that time, the demonstrations ended with assurance from the owners that the overdue payments would be settled,” the traffic official added.
