The arrestees are ringleader Mizanur Rahman, 34, Rezaul Karim, 36, Nazrul Islam, 32, Jahir Uddin Md Babar, 37, and Shah Md Waliullah, 37. Sources at the Rab headquarters said kingpin Mizan made a plan 4-5 months back to kidnap Abir, 8, son of TNZ Group managing director Shahadat Hossain Shamim, to realise Tk 2 crore as ransom. He finalised the plan with Rezaul, driver of the general manager of the company, and its electrician Nazrul. According to the plan, the arrestees along with their other accomplices abducted Abir from Banani Flyover at gunpoint around 8:30pm on May 2. Later, the gangsters demanded Tk 10 crore from Shamim for releasing his son. But the deal was fixed at Tk 2 crore after negotiation. Finally, they released the minor boy near Radisson Blu Water Garden hotel around 6:30pm on May 6 after taking the ransom money. Informed, Rab-1 started investigation into the matter and they arrested the five abductors in the early hours of today.
