Bollywood: Vidya got a chance in ‘Parineeta’ after auditioning 75 times

‘Parineeta’ was a blessing in Vidya Balan’s life. The film was made by Pradeep Sarkar based on the story of Sarat Chandra Chatterjee. Vidya made her Bollywood debut with this film.
She became a familiar face in Hindi cinema with her first work. However, this work did not come easily to Vidya.
She auditioned 75 times before she was finalised for the role of Lalita in this film. Before telling the story of Parineeta’s movie, it is necessary to tell a little about Vidya’s career journey.
Vidya started acting with the serial ‘Hum Panch’. When this serial was running, she was a college student.
Due to the shooting, she could not attend classes regularly.
After working in it for one and a half years, she was forced to leave the serial. Then her modeling chapter began. She became a model in 90 advertisements one after another.
Vidya started getting offers to act in films due to advertisements. She got a chance in a Malayalam film opposite Mohanlal. But after a few days of shooting, the work was stopped.
Vidya Balan said that at that time she was signed for 12 films. But within a few years, she was dropped from all the films one by one. Many people called Vidya ‘Apaya’ at that time.
Vidya was deteriorating inside and out. Still, she kept hoping that one day something would happen. She used to go to a temple in Chimbur every day and sit there and cry for hours.
When Vidya was modelling regularly, she worked in some advertisements under the direction of Pradeep Sarkar. A few years later, Pradeep called Vidya again for a music video of the band Euphoria.
After the first day of work, he told Vidya that he would make his first film with her. In the meantime, Vidya Balan made her debut on the big screen with a Bengali film called ‘Bhalo Theko’ by Gautam Haldar.
Meanwhile, Pradeep Sarkar got a producer for Parineeta’s movie. Vidhu Vinod Chopra agreed to produce the movie.
But there was a condition; Aishwarya had to be cast in the role of Lalita because, he did not want to take a risk with a new artiste like Vidya. However, Pradeep Sarkar was adamant; Vidya was suitable for this role.
He kept convincing the producer. It was decided that Vidya would be given a chance only if she did well in the audition.
Vidya’s audition phase began. Sometimes photoshoots, sometimes scenes, moments, sometimes song scenes continued to be auditioned. Shantanu Maitra worked as the music director in this film.
He said that Vidya Balan had to audition 75 times for the film ‘Parineeta’. Vidhu Vinod Chopra was rejecting her every time. But Vidya did not give up. Every time she was called for auditions, she appeared on time.
Finally, one day, the desired time came. Vidya Balan went to see the concert of Spanish artist Enrico that day. In the middle of the concert, Vidhu Vinod Chopra called and said that Vidya is the ultimate in Parineeta’s movie! After a few moments of silence, Vidya Balan broke down in tears. Her Bollywood chapter began. ‘Parineeta’ was released on June 10, 2005. Vidya was praised in her first movie.
