A coach of the Kurigram Express, an intercity train departing from Dhaka, derailed in Akkelpur, Joypurhat. After about 5 hours of effort, the derailed coach was recovered and train services resumed to normal.
The accident occurred at around 3:30 am on Saturday in the Bhadrakali Chakraghunath area of Akkelpur upazila of Joypurhat. This has restored rail connectivity in the northern region with the rest of the country after about 5 hours.
Santahar Railway Junction Station Master Khadija Khatun said that a coach of the Kurigram-bound intercity Kurigram Express train that left Dhaka at 3:30 am on Monday night derailed in the Bhadrakali area before Akkelpur station. Train communication has been suspended since then. After receiving the information, a relief train quickly arrived and recovered the coach, and train communication normalized from 9 am after 5 hours. She also said that no casualties were reported.
