11 cops suspended for giving benefits to Matiur

At least eleven Policemen have been suspended for providing unethical benefits to former National Board of Revenue (NBR) board member Matiur Rahman, who is infamous for the controversial ‘goat scandal’.
They are SI Abul Kashem, Constables Moniruzzaman, Kabir Hossain, Imran, Nirjon Khan, Shamim Alam, Roni Hossain, Shariful Islam, Tanvir Rahman, Abu Sayeed Mia and Rabindra Das. They punished on Saturday by order of Superintendent of Police (SP) office, Kishoreganj.
The incident description reveals that Matiur Rahman was an undertrial prisoner in Kishoreganj Jail in an ACC case. On August 12, he was produced before the Dhaka Metropolitan Sessions Judge’s Court for the hearing of the ACC case.
On his way back after the appearance, the police members assigned to his security arranged for Matiur to be fed in a separate room in exchange for a bribe. The other police members took their food outside in a common place.
After the matter came to light, a three-member investigation committee led by an additional superintendent of police was formed and the truth of the allegations was found in the investigation. In view of the investigation report, 11 policemen were temporarily suspended and attached to the police line on Saturday.
Kishoreganj ‘s SP Mohammad Hasan Chowdhury BPM confirmed this matter.
