One sentenced to death, 17 get life imprisonment in N’ganj murder case

In Narayanganj’s Rupganj, a court has sentenced one person to
death and 17 others to life imprisonment in a case filed over the
murder of a young man, Nazrul Islam Babu, who was killed for
protesting against drug dealing.
On Thursday (September 4), Narayanganj District and Sessions
Judge’s Court-1 Judge Md. Mominul Islam delivered the verdict.
The death sentence recipient is Tawlad alias Zahirul (48), son of
Afsar Uddin from Lolati in Sonargaon.
The convicts sentenced to life imprisonment are: Mizan (35),
Mohammad Ali (38), Abdul Latif (65), Hanif (36), VP Sohel (50),
Sabuj (35), Milon (41), Selim (43), Golzar (39), Leda Faruk (40),
Rasel (40), Momen (38), Saddam, Shaheen (39), Ruhul Amin (38),
Abul (38), and Pondit (43). Among them, only Mohammad Ali
was present in court the rest were absconding.
Court Police Inspector Md. Kaiyum Khan confirmed the matter,
saying: “In the presence of one accused, the court handed down a
death sentence to one and life imprisonment to 17 others.”

Noyon said: “On May 31, 2012, in Mashimpur of Rupganj, when
Nazrul Islam Babu—son of Md. Jalal Mia—protested against
drugs and criminal activities, the accused hacked and shot him to
death. Later, Jalal Mia filed a case. Today, the court has delivered
its verdict in that case.”
