Break any AL hand raised against you: Fakhrul to party men
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Tuesday issued a tough message for the Awami League, urging his party leaders and activists to strike back if they come under attack.
“Stay alert. If an Awami League member dares to raise a hand against you, break that hand,” Fakhrul told BNP members while launching a canal-cleaning programme in Dhaka’s Uttara, organised by the party’s Dhaka North unit.
The event was arranged as a substitute for the earlier announced rally commemorating the BNP’s 47th founding anniversary.
Accusing Sheikh Hasina of continuing conspiracy from abroad, Fakhrul said, “Although she has fled the country, she has not given up her misdeeds. From India, she is directing Chhatra League and Jubo League members to create unrest.”
Explaining why the rally was cancelled, Fakhrul noted, “Holding rallies blocks roads, worsens traffic, and causes suffering to the public. That is why Tarique Rahman instructed us to take up canal cleaning instead.”
Calling for seriousness in the effort, the BNP leader reminded activists, “Cleaning canals doesn’t mean showing up briefly and disappearing. The whole canal must be cleaned. Leaders should not just turn up in coats and ties and pretend to work. Some female leaders even arrived straight from beauty parlours-this is no way to clean canals.”
On Chief Adviser Muhammad Yunus, Fakhrul said, “Political parties placed the responsibility of running the country on Yunus. He is genuinely trying to create an atmosphere for elections, without any personal political ambition.”
He further advised party activists to avoid triggering unrest surrounding student union elections.
Directly addressing the police, Fakhrul urged, “Forget what you did in the past. Stand with the people now. If you do so, you will earn their love and respect.”
Attack on Nur was an attempt on his life: If law enforcement agencies can attack our leaders like this way after the coup you just think about what they are doing to ordinary people.
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said regardless of who carried out the attack it was clearly done with an intention of killing Gana Odhikar Parishad President Nurul Haque Nur.
Fakhrul made the remarks while talking to journalists on Tuesday noon after visiting Nur at Dhaka Medical College Hospital (DMCH),
Mirza Fakhrul said, “What struck me the most is that, no matter who attacked him, it is clear that the attack on Nurul Haque Nur was intended to kill him.”
He said though Nur’s condition has improved he is not out of danger. “The body parts where he sustained the injuries are very fatal. He has also suffered brain injuries and bleeding.”
He added, “After talking to the doctors, I learned that there has been no negligence in his treatment; everything is being done properly. After some rest here, further
