N’ganj DC stands beside fire victim families

Narayanganj Deputy Commissioner Mohammad Zahidul Islam Miah On Monday extended his support to the families devastated by the recent Siddhirganj fire.

His presence was not limited to financial aid he also assured the injured of the best possible medical care. Despite his demanding schedule, the DC patiently listened to the survivors’ stories and promised full cooperation if they decide to seek legal justice.

Earlier, he distributed Tk 205,000 in aid among the two affected families. The fire, which broke out at dawn on August 23 in the Hirajheel area of Siddhirganj, claimed seven lives and left two others injured.

One of the families lost laborer Hasan Gazi (40), his wife Salma Begum (32), their daughter Jannat (4), and their one-month-old son Imam Uddin. Their other daughter, 10-year-old Muntaaha, is now undergoing treatment at the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery. The compensation for this family was received by Hasan’s younger brother, Rakibul Islam.

In the second family, garment worker Asma Begum (35), her daughter Tisha (17), and her mother Tahera Begum (60) died in the fire. Asma’s 15-year-old son Arafat, a madrasa student, is still fighting for his life at the same hospital. His father, Tanzirul Islam, accepted the financial aid on behalf of the family.

Each deceased victim’s family received Tk 25,000, while each injured survivor’s family received Tk 15,000, totaling Tk 205,000.

Expressing his gratitude, Tanzirul Islam said, “We will never get our loved ones back, but the way the DC comforted us has eased our pain a little. He truly is a good man.”

He added that the DC personally checked on his son’s condition and promised to speak directly with the Burn Unit’s director to ensure proper care.
