Some parties trying to foil election: Fakhrul
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has said, “Although the student-people’s movement has toppled the fascist Awami League government, the defeated forces-Awami League’s henchmen-are still engaged in creating anarchy in the country.
They are immersed in deep conspiracy. The conspirators cannot in any way accept the historic victory of the student-people, and that is why in the current fascism-free situation they have resorted to demonic and horrific games across the country.”
The BNP Secretary General made the assertions on Wednesday in a statement to the media while narrating the barbaric attack on his party men in Shariatpur district.
In the statement, he said, “Yesterday, in Shariatpur’s Zajira upazila, Khobir Uddin Sarkar, joint convener of Boro Kandi Union BNP and former president of Boro Kandi Union Krishak Dal, were brutally murdered by armed terrorists of Awami Jubo League and Chhatra League.”
Mirza Fakhrul expressed deep concern over such demonic, barbaric, and cowardly incident.
The BNP Secretary General said, “Although the people have been relieved from the tyranny of the Awami misrule, which was more ferocious and terrifying than that of wild beasts, the country is still not completely safe.”
Awami miscreants, lying in wait, are desperate to destabilize the nation. And for this reason, they are attacking the people and opposition activists, brutally killing them in demonic fashion, he alleged.
“The brutal killing of Khobir Uddin Sarkar, joint convener of Boro Kandi Union BNP and former president of Boro Kandi Union Krishak Dal in Zajira upazila of Shariatpur district, is a stark manifestation of this.” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “These terrorists must be suppressed with an iron hand; there is no alternative. The interim government must adopt strict measures to curb terrorism. Otherwise, due to the dominance of terrorists, the country will once again become unstable.
Therefore, to ensure that conspirators cannot exploit the situation by following a bloody and violent path, everyone, regardless of party affiliation, must remain vigilant. Only then will true democracy, good governance, and the safety of people’s lives and property be ensured in the country.”
The BNP Secretary General strongly demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of Khobir Uddin Sarkar’s killers. He prayed for the salvation of the departed soul and expressed deep sympathy to the bereaved family members.
Meanwhile in a discussion meeting, BNP Secretary General expressed frustration, saying the Awami League has destroyed everything in the country. People’s mindset, everything has changed.
He said, “I have never been frustrated in politics. I have always encouraged everyone. Lately, however, I sometimes notice a shadow of frustration.
Do you know why?-Because wherever I look, I see that most of the people of the country have become corrupt. Corruption, corruption, corruption-there is no way to go to any office or court. As I have said before, earlier one needed to pay one lakh taka in bribes, now it takes five lakh.”
He said this on Wednesday at the National Press Club at a discussion meeting organized on the occasion of the 10th death anniversary of veteran politician Kazi Zafar Ahmed. On this occasion, he highlighted the political activities of Kazi Zafar Ahmed.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Unfortunately, some political parties, some quarters, are, in a very deliberate way, trying to foil the election, to disrupt it, by raising new demands. They are making demands that people are not even familiar with.
Our general people are not even familiar with the word “reform, let alone understanding proportional representation (PR) or other methods. It will take time to understand; it is very difficult.”
