BNP Senior Joint Secretary General Ruhul Kabir Rizvi said, everyone should be aware that petty quarrels must not pave the way for fascism to return.
“We must preserve the achievement of August 5. By engaging in petty quarrels, we must not make way for the return of fascism. For the past 16 years, Sheikh Hasina has established a reign of terror in the country.
We do not want fascism anymore,” Rizvi said on Sunday at a program organized by Zia Parishad to distribute raincoats among rickshaw and van pullers on the occasion of Begum Khaleda Zia’s 81st birthday.
The event took place in front of the BNP central office from 11:20 am to 12:00 noon.
As chief guest, Rizvi said, “If constitutional amendments are required to implement the July Charter, it will be done by a government elected by the people. First, ensure a free and fair election, then let the people’s government come.”
He alleged that signs of famine are appearing in the country due to lack of employment.
Many mills and factories have shut down, leaving hundreds of thousands of people unemployed.
He cautioned that fascist elements still hiding within the administration will act against democracy whenever they get a chance. Therefore, he urged everyone to remain united and resist conspiracies.
Others present at the event included BNP Joint Secretary General Abdus Salam Azad, Secretary for Volunteer Affairs Mir Sarafat Ali Sapu, Zia Parishad President Professor Dr. Abdul Latif, Secretary General Dr. Emtaz Hossain, and Joint Secretary General Abdullahil Masud.
At the end of the speeches, the leaders handed over raincoats to rickshaw and van pullers. The ordinary drivers said such initiatives bring them real benefit in their daily lives.
