14,000 cubic feet of stone seized in Jaintapur: Initiative to restore the river

14,000 cubic feet of stone have been seized in a joint operation by the upazila administration and task force in Jaintapur upazila of Sylhet.
On Saturday (August 23) at 11 am, Upazila Executive Officer (UNO) George Mitra Chakma came to Banglabazar area No. 4 of the upazila for an operation.
Assistant Commissioner (Land) Farzana Akhter Laboni, Jaintapur Model Police Station and BGB members of Sreepur BOP under the responsibility of Sylhet Battalion (48 BGB) were also present at the time.
During the operation, the task force seized stones from the Rangpani River in a stored state in several crushers in the Bangla Bazar area No. 4. Later, 2,000 cubic feet of stones were seized from that place.
Later, another 12,000 cubic feet of stones stored near the Sreepur tea garden were seized.
Upazila Executive Officer George Mitra Chakma, who led the operation in this regard, said that the work of restoring a total of 11,500 cubic feet of stones, including the 9,500 cubic feet of stones seized last week in the Bangla Bazar area No. 4 and 2,000 cubic feet today, has already begun.
He also said that 12,000 cubic feet of stone seized from the Sreepur tea garden area during the operation will be re-placed in the Jaflong Piain River.
He also confirmed that the work of re-placing a total of more than thirty thousand cubic feet of stone, including 20,000 cubic feet of stone seized from the Sreepur stone quarry area last week and another eleven and a half thousand cubic feet seized from the 4th Bangla Bazar area, in the Rangpani River under the supervision of the administration, is underway. He also said that the administration’s operation will be conducted regularly.
