The body of veteran journalist Bibhuranjan Sarkar has been recovered from the bank of Meghna River in Gazaria upazila of Munshiganj, two days after he went missing.
Md Masud Alam, deputy commissioner of Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Ramna Division, confirmed the matter on Friday afternoon.
Bibhuranjan, 71, was a senior sub-editor of the Bangla daily Ajker Patrika and a well-known columnist on current affairs.
According to his family, he left his residence in Banasree for the office around 10am on Tuesday but never returned.
By late evening, as he had not come back home, his family began searching for him.
His son, Wreet Sarkar, later filed a general diary (GD) with Ramna Model Police Station. In the GD, he mentioned that colleagues, including acting editor Kamrul Hasan, confirmed that Bibhuranjan had not reached the office that day. Speaking to reporters earlier in the morning, Wreet said, “My father had no known disputes with anyone. We searched everywhere, but he could not be traced.”
