Sylhet Bureau :
The district administration’s investigation committee has submitted the investigation report on the white stone looting incident in Sylhet.
The report was submitted to the Deputy Commissioner’s office on Wednesday afternoon, said the head of the investigation committee and Additional Deputy Commissioner of Sylhet Padmasan Singh.
However, no official of the district administration has revealed what issues were raised in the report.
However, before submitting the report, outgoing Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sher Mahbub Murad formally left the Deputy Commissioner’s office. He left the Deputy Commissioner’s office around 12 noon on Wednesday. It is learned that the report was submitted after that.
In the face of widespread criticism over the white stone looting in Bholaganj, Companiganj Upazila, Sylhet District Administration Sheikh Mahbub Murad formed a three-member investigation committee on August 12. The committee was asked to submit the report within three days.
The committee is headed by Additional Deputy Commissioner (Development and Human Resource Management) Padma Sen Singh. The two members are – UNO of Companiganj Azizunnahar and Assistant Director of the Department of Environment Afzalul Islam.
Criticism has started since the formation of this committee. In particular, questions have been raised about the inclusion of UNO of Companiganj Azizunnahar in the committee. This UNO is accused of failure to prevent white stone looting and indifference towards the looters.
In the face of criticism, Sylhet Deputy Commissioner (DC) Sher Mahbub Murad was transferred to Officer on Special Duty (OSD) on Monday and Upazila Nirbahi Officer (UNO) of Companiganj Azizunnahar was transferred. Earlier, the Mineral Resources Development Bureau filed a case against 1,500 to 2,000 people in the white stone looting incident.
