Staff Reporter :
A Dhaka court has placed four more suspects on three-day police remand in connection with the killing of Rahat Hossain Rabbi at a Banani Shisha bar.
Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Md Ziadur Rahman passed the order on Tuesday (19 August) after hearing submissions from both prosecution and defence.
The four accused are Md Mir Hossain (22), Md Fazle Rabbi (24), Sabbir Ahmed Sumon (30), and Arafat Islam Fahim (27). With them, a total of six individuals have now been remanded in the case.
Investigating officer Sub-Inspector Md Amzad Sheikh of Banani Police Station produced the accused before the court, seeking seven days’ remand for each.
Defence lawyers applied for bail and opposed the remand petitions, while prosecutor Shamsuddoha Sumon argued in favour of police custody. After hearing both sides, the court ordered three days’ remand for each suspect.
The four were arrested on 15 August, the same day two prime accused-Maksudur Rahman Hamza (22) and Abdul Malek Munna (22)-were also taken into custody.
Magistrate Israt Jennifer Zerin had earlier granted a one-day remand for Hamza and three days for Munna.
According to the case statement, around 4:30am on 14 August, Rabbi was fatally stabbed on the staircase of “360 Degree,” a Shisha bar in Banani, as he was leaving the premises.
He was rushed to hospital but declared dead. His father, Robiul Awal, later filed a murder case at Banani Police Station.
CCTV footage shows Rabbi being attacked by multiple assailants-stabbed, struck with objects, and chased near the lift before collapsing from his injuries.
