Maa Manasa is the legendary serpent goddess of Hinduism. Manasa is the foremost among the goddesses of Hindu mythology. The identity of Goddess Manasa is found in the medieval Maa Mangalkavya.
The first mention of Manasa as a serpent goddess is also found. In mythology, Maa Manasa is a very famous goddess. Maa Manasa is known as Bishahari to her devotees. She is also known as Jagatgauri Nitya. Snakes roam freely during the rainy season, so to prevent snake bites and to protect oneself from snake venom, Maa Manasa is worshipped during the Sankranti of the month of Shravan.
