BRU classes begin today
BRU Correspondent:
Rangpur’s Begum Rokeya University (BRU is going to start the first-year undergraduate classes from today (Sunday). The university administration is taking a strict stance on ragging with first-year students.
On Saturday, the university’s Vice-Chancellor Professor Dr. Shawkat Ali said, “We have zero tolerance for ragging. No one will be spared here. If anyone is found ragging, we will take action according to the prevailing laws of the university through the disciplinary committee.”
He also said, like last time, this time too, we will keep complaint boxes in the residential halls and academic buildings. Anyone can lodge a complaint here anonymously. In addition, they will be given the number of the proctor’s office. So that they can always keep in touch. We will not allow such a culture to be reintroduced at Abu Sayeed’s University.
In this regard, Chhatra Dal convener Al Amin said, “We are also against ragging. The Chhatra League has created these cultures.” I wish that the university seniors and juniors will have a cordial relationship. If any student is involved in ragging. Whether it is political or non-political, the administration should definitely take action against him.
Abdur Rakib Murad, General Secretary of Berobi Chhatrashibir, said, studying in a much-desired university through perseverance and hard work is a matter of passion and love for a student. As soon as the new students arrive, the inhuman, humiliating or coercive behavior of seniors with students in educational institutions is definitely not desirable. The culture of intimidating new students, imposing unnecessary rules, causing physical or mental pain, insulting or making them do indecent acts must be stopped. We hope that Berobi students will welcome the new students with love, good advice and decent behavior.
