The Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) has arrested two accused who were absconding in the roof-throwing murder case of Abul Hasan after he was kidnapped and thrown from a roof after he failed to get a ransom.
On Friday night, a joint operation by RAB-9, Sylhet and RAB-3 led to their arrest in separate operations in Dhanmondi and Sylhet cities of Dhaka.
This information was confirmed in a press release sent by RAB-9 on Saturday.
The arrested are Md. Abdul Majid’s son Md. Nazmul Hossain alias Raihan (20) and Raju Ahmed (18), son of Golam Kibria of Rajapur village of Dharmapasha police station in Sunamganj.
According to a RAB press release, on June 18, 2024, at around 9:30 pm, the victim Abul Hasan and his cousin Minhaj were abducted in a pre-planned manner and taken to the roof of a five-storey building next to the Britannia Residential Hotel in Amberkhana of Kotwali police station. There, the kidnappers beat them indiscriminately and snatched their money and mobile phones.
Later, they demanded another five lakh taka ransom from Abul. When he refused to pay the ransom, Abul was brutally beaten and at one point pushed off the roof. Abul was taken to the hospital in a seriously injured condition, but he died the next day (June 19) while undergoing treatment at Sylhet Women’s Medical College Hospital.
The deceased’s brother filed a murder case with Kotwali Police Station as a complainant in the incident.
RAB said that based on a secret information, a joint team of RAB-9 and RAB-3 conducted a raid in the Dhanmondi Police Station area of the capital at around 10:30 pm on Thursday and arrested the absconding accused in the case, Md. Nazmul Hossain alias Raihan.
Later, based on the information provided by him, a raid was conducted in the Majumdari Konapara area under the Airport Police Station in Sylhet at around 11:30 pm and another absconding accused in the same case, Raju, was arrested.
The arrested have been handed over to the concerned police station.
