Turnover falls slightly as DSEX dips amid broad-based correction

The Dhaka Stock Exchange (DSE) has seen a mild decline in trading volume and a 50-point dip in the benchmark index, as most stocks underwent price corrections following a sustained rally.
Turnover stood at Tk 9.11 billion at the end of the session on Monday, slightly lower than the previous day.
The DSEX benchmark index, which closed at 5,536 points on Sunday, slipped to 5,485 by close, dropping below the 5,500 mark it had crossed for the first time since Oct 1, 2024.
The index had initially gained 23 points in the first 75 minutes of trading, peaking at 5,559 before reversing direction later in the session. Out of 397 traded scrips, 122 advanced, 207 declined, and 68 remained unchanged.
According to DSE data, the banking sector led turnover, contributing Tk 2.33 billion. The sector has consistently maintained daily turnover above Tk 2 billion for over a week, more than triple its usual Tk 600-700 million range.
The pharmaceuticals and chemicals sector followed with Tk 1.27 billion in turnover, while power and energy came third at Tk 808.8 million. Titas Gas, Shinepukur Ceramics, and BD Thai Food topped the gainers’ list based on closing prices. Trust Bank, CNA Textiles, and South Bangla Agricultural Bank posted the steepest losses.
