Interim govt vows to return power to the people: CA

Chief Adviser Professor Muhammad Yunus on Monday reaffirmed the interim government’s unwavering commitment to restoring state power to the people through a peaceful, fair, and transparent national election, as part of a lasting political settlement.
In a message marking July Uprising Day, Prof Yunus said, “To advance our democratic journey, dialogue is ongoing with political parties and stakeholders regarding essential reforms in the political and electoral systems.”
Calling for unity beyond political and social divides, he urged all citizens to stand together to defeat the forces of tyranny and ensure that “despotism never rises again.”
Prof Yunus described July as a month that rekindled national hope — hope for a just, equal, and corruption-free Bangladesh. He stressed that the sacrifices made by thousands during the uprising had created a rare opportunity for national reform that must be safeguarded at any cost.
He warned, however, that “the fallen autocrats and their self-serving allies remain active, conspiring to undermine the nation’s hard-won progress.”
Reflecting on the historic day, Prof Yunus said, “It was on this very day, one year ago, that the July Uprising triumphed, liberating Bangladesh from long-standing fascist misrule.” He congratulated the people whose united resistance led to the victory.
Paying deep tribute to the youth, workers, and professionals who laid down their lives, he expressed “profound respect for every martyr of the uprising.” He also honoured the memory of those who were injured, disabled, or lost their eyesight during the struggle, saying the nation would forever remember their sacrifices.
“The July Uprising was a collective eruption against sixteen years of authoritarian repression,” he said. “At its heart was the people’s desire for a new, democratic system free from injustice, corruption, and tyranny.”
Since taking office, he added, the interim government has launched widespread reforms across all sectors to fulfill those aspirations. The trials of those involved in the July killings are progressing swiftly, while efforts are underway to preserve the memory of the martyrs and rehabilitate injured fighters.
