Former Army Chief Harun-Ar-Rashid found dead at Chittagong Club

Former Chief of Army Staff Lieutenant General (Retd) M Harun-Ar-Rashid, Bir Protik, was found dead at the Chittagong Club guest house on Monday morning. He was 77.
Police said the retired general had arrived in Chattogram on Sunday to attend a court hearing related to a graft case involving Destiny Multipurpose Co-operative Society Ltd, citing information from family members. Upon arrival, he checked into the guest house.
According to Mohammad Mahfuz, Assistant Commissioner of Chattogram Metropolitan Police (Kotwali zone), club authorities became concerned after getting no response from his room the following morning. Police were alerted and later forced open the door, where they found his body.
The body was subsequently taken to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) in Chattogram.
Lieutenant General Harun-Ar-Rashid served as Chief of Army Staff from 2000 to June 16, 2002. He is survived by his wife, one son, one daughter, and numerous relatives.
His cousin, Professor Dr Najmun Nahar, confirmed that no postmortem would be carried out. His janaza will be held at Chittagong Cantonment, and he will be buried at the family graveyard in Katirhat village, Hathazari upazila.
