We won’t allow looters to return to power: Fakhrul
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Friday said they would not allow looters, extortionists and the fascists to return to the country’s power.
“We have temporarily been freed from the grip of terrible fascism. This freedom will only be complete when we can politically eliminate them entirely,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “Those who loot, who plunder banks, who engage in extortion, who grab people’s property-there will be no compromise with them. We will never accept them, and we will not allow them to come to the forefront under any circumstances.”
The BNP leader made these remarks at a rally in Azampur, Uttara. The event was organized in front of Amir Complex by the BNP’s Dhaka North city unit to commemorate the anniversary of the July-August mass uprising and honor the martyrs.
Referring to the news that the United States has reduced the supplementary tariff on Bangladeshi exports to 20 percent, Mirza Fakhrul described it as “good news for the country” and praised the interim government for its efforts.
He said, “Today we have some good news. A few days ago, you saw that the U.S. imposed tariffs on our products. Do you know what tariffs are? A 35 percent tax would be imposed on the goods we export. Our foreign ministry and advisers discussed it and successfully brought it down to 20 percent. The interim government has fulfilled a major responsibility.”
He added, “The Reform Commission meeting concluded yesterday. We hope the full report will be released in a couple of days.”
Regarding the upcoming election, Mirza Fakhrul said, “Our Chief Adviser has announced that the election will be held in February. We want this election; the people of this country want it. The people want the country to be governed by an elected government.”
Mirza Fakhrul further said, “Just as the people once had faith in the martyred President Ziaur Rahman and Khaleda Zia, today they are placing that same trust in Tarique Rahman.”
Quoting Tarique Rahman, he said, “We will build a new Bangladesh where everyone will have equal rights, where people will be able to vote, where there will be no poverty. Gradually, the country will move towards development, and again and again he has said that justice will be established.”
The BNP Secretary General also mentioned Tarique Rahman’s future plans for the marginalized population, including the introduction of a “Pharma Card,” “Health Card,” and “Family Card” as part of the vision for a new Bangladesh.
Recalling the unrest in Uttara exactly one year ago on this day, he expressed solidarity with the families of the martyrs, remembering the sacrifices made by students during the final phase of the movement to overthrow fascism.
The rally was presided over by Dhaka North city convenor Aminul Haque and conducted by joint convenor ABMA Abdur Razzak. Among those who also spoke were BNP Vice Chairman Nurul Islam Moni, Member Secretary of the July-August Uprising Anniversary National Committee Professor Morshed Hasan Khan, Executive Committee Member Saiful Alam Nirab, Krishak Dal’s Hasan Jafir Tuhin, Jubo Dal’s Nurul Islam Nayan, Swechchasebak Dal’s Rajib Ahsan, Mohila Dal’s Sultana Ahmed, JASAS’s Helal Khan, Tanti Dal’s Abul Kalam Azad, Dhaka North Member Secretary Mostafa Zaman, and Joint Convenor SM Jahangir, along with family members of the martyrs.
