Police remove ‘July Warriors’ from Shahbag

Staff Reporter :
Police have removed the ‘July Warriors’ from the Shahbag intersection in Dhaka after a clash broke out between two factions of the group demanding the declaration of the July Charter. Their protest stage was also dismantled.
Vehicular movement resumed around 6:45 PM on Friday after the road was cleared.
Earlier, on Thursday at 11 AM, the ‘July Warriors’ began a protest by blocking the Shahbag intersection, which halted all traffic through the area. They spent the night there, continuing their sit-in on Friday morning by laying tarpaulin on the road.
They gave speeches from a makeshift stage and surrounded the area with barricades.
On Friday afternoon, when another faction of the ‘July Warriors’ opposed the blockade, an argument broke out between the two groups. To control the situation, police intervened and removed both sides from the Shahbag intersection.
Speaking to journalists, the faction opposing the blockade said, “True July Warriors do not cause public suffering by blocking roads.
But some people, claiming to be July Warriors, are harassing the general public by occupying the Shahbag intersection. We protest this behavior.”
