Staff Reporter :

The Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC) on Tuesday filed a graft case against former Cultural Affairs Minister Asaduzzaman Noor, accusing the Awami League leader of amassing illegal wealth and engaging in suspicious financial transactions through multiple bank accounts.

The case was approved at an ACC commission meeting earlier in the day and later filed, confirmed ACC Deputy Director of Public Relations Md Atkarul Islam.

According to ACC findings, Noor allegedly acquired wealth amounting to Tk 5.37 crore beyond his known sources of income. While he declared Tk 23.64 crore in his tax returns, his total acquired wealth was found to be Tk29.01 crore, raising red flags.

More alarmingly, Noor reportedly conducted suspicious transactions worth Tk 158.78 crore through 19 bank accounts, which ACC investigators are now scrutinising for possible links to money laundering and undisclosed financial dealings.

The case has been filed under Section 27(1) of the Anti-Corruption Commission Act, 2004, along with sub-sections 2 and 3 of Section 4 of the Money Laundering Prevention Act, 2012, and Section 109 of the Bangladesh Penal Code (BPC).

Asaduzzaman Noor served as the Minister of Cultural Affairs from 2014 to 2019. Neither Noor nor his representatives have publicly responded to the allegations at the time of reporting.
