Pabna farmers busy processing golden fibre

The golden fiber ‘jute’ in Chatmohar, Pabna is now spending their time. Jute farmers were initially extremely worried about jute due to lack of water.
There was not enough water even in the month of Ashadh. But due to continuous rains, the water level in the rivers and streams has increased.

As a result, the jute farmers are somewhat relieved. Farmers are now spending their time cutting, jutting and separating the fibers from the jute mats and washing them. However, due to the rain, farmers are facing difficulties in drying the jute.

Now, jute is being harvested in the rivers, canals and canals of Chatmohar Upazila. The work of washing jute is going on. A great work of jute is going on from morning to evening. This time, jute has been cultivated on more land than the target in Chatmohar Upazila.

The target was 8,900 hectares. 8,960 hectares have been cultivated. The yield per bigha is also good. The price of new jute is also high in the markets. Anwar Hossain, a farmer from Chaikola in the upazila, said that he has cultivated jute on three bighas of land.

After cutting and threshing the jute, the jute is now being washed. However, the wages of agricultural workers are high. The women of the village are exchanging jute fibers in exchange for jute flour. Due to which the farmers are not getting jute flour.

Another farmer, Ijabat Ali, said that jute is now being sold at 3,500 taka per maund in the markets. The farmers are getting some profit from this. He said that the price of jute may increase further. Chatmohar Upazila Agriculture Officer Kuntala Ghosh said that there was some water shortage to thresh the jute. Which is no longer the case. The official said that there has been a bumper harvest of jute.
