BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Monday said that the current government continuously talks about reforms while indirectly blaming political parties.
“They are trying to suggest that we are not cooperating. These claims are not true. Debates and internal conflicts may once again push the country backward,” he said.
Mirza Fakhrul said, “We haven’t seen any significant progress in prosecuting Hasina yet—why not? Why has no work begun even a year after the July mass uprising?” he questioned.
He further stated, “We are entangled in debates and internal feuds over issues that could once again drag Bangladesh backward. This could empower fascist forces and create new opportunities for them.”
He made the remarks while inaugurating Juba Dal’s graffiti art exhibition in front of the National Museum in Shahbagh, held as part of a month-long mass uprising programme.
The BNP Secretary General alleged that leaders and activists across the country had been killed, abducted, tortured, and persecuted. “Even in July last year, leaders from all our affiliated organisations were arrested, taken to the DB office, and brutally tortured. Senior leaders were also subjected to violence. Yet not a single one of our leaders surrendered or signed any undertaking that day.”
Fakhrul continued, “Photos of the DB office are now being shown on television and in newspapers. But images of our leaders and activists having their nails pulled out, their arms broken, and being hung and beaten are never shown in the media.”
