ECNEC approves Tk 2,840cr for DU

The Executive Committee of the National Economic Council (Ecnec) has approved a Tk 2,840.39 crore project titled Further Development of Dhaka University, under the Ministry of Education.
This is part of a broader approval of 12 development projects with a total estimated cost of Tk 8,149.38 crore.
The approvals were granted during an Ecnec meeting held at the Planning Commission in Dhaka, chaired by Chief Adviser and Ecnec Chairperson Professor Muhammad Yunus, according to an official press release.
Among the 12 cleared projects, six are new, four are revised, and two involve deadline extensions without increasing budgetary allocations. The approved projects span key sectors including education, infrastructure, energy, agriculture, and social development.
One significant project is the second revision of the Construction of Road from Kalurghat Bridge to Chaktai Canal along the banks of the Karnaphuli River, undertaken by the Ministry of Housing and Public Works.
The Ministry of Home Affairs received the green light for two projects: establishing 20 fire service stations-12 newly built and eight reconstructed-and enhancing logistics and freight support systems for the Bangladesh Coast Guard.
The Local Government Division secured approval for the Rural Sanitation Project and the third revision of the Drilling of Canal from Bahaddarhat Baraipara to the Karnaphuli River.
