Business Report :

The Bangladesh Investment Development Authority (BIDA) has reported strong and growing interest from Chinese investors in several of Bangladesh’s high-priority sectors, following a week-long series of strategic engagements in Shanghai and Guangzhou from July 20 to 26.

Led by Ashik Chowdhury, Executive Chairman of both BIDA and the Bangladesh Economic Zones Authority (BEZA), the high-level delegation aimed to deepen bilateral investment ties and promote Bangladesh as a dynamic and reform-driven investment destination.

A major highlight of the visit was the investment seminar held in Shanghai on July 21, jointly organized by BIDA and the Embassy of Bangladesh. The event drew over 100 Chinese investors, including representatives from renowned companies such as Handa Industries and New Tiger Energy.

These firms, already operating in Bangladesh, shared positive experiences and offered encouraging assessments of the country’s investment environment, highlighting its improving infrastructure, competitive labor costs, and strategic access to regional markets.

Beyond the seminar, the delegation engaged in over 25 one-on-one meetings with Chinese enterprises exploring new or expanded operations in Bangladesh. Key sectors that sparked notable interest included renewable energy, ready-made garments (RMG), healthcare, consumer electronics, and light engineering.

These align closely with Bangladesh’s own development priorities and offer considerable potential for mutually beneficial partnerships.

Ashik Chowdhury noted the “enthusiastic response” from the Chinese business community, crediting recent policy reforms in Bangladesh-especially efforts to stabilize the exchange rate, streamline foreign investment procedures, and improve the ease of doing business.

These reforms were well-received by potential investors and positioned Bangladesh as a resilient and forward-looking economy.
