National Citizens Party (NCP) chief Nahid Islam and other central leaders paid a courtesy call on the family members of 16 people who were martyred in Sylhet in the July 24th mass uprising to remove the dictator.
The meeting took place at around 9 am on Saturday (July 26) in the hall room of a prestigious hotel in Sylhet city.
The relatives of the martyrs broke down in tears. The NCP chief expressed his deep condolences to them and assured all possible cooperation in expediting the trial of the martyrs.
The relatives of the martyrs who came to the meeting, organized under the supervision of NCP central executive member Barrister Nurul Huda Junaid and with the assistance of Nurul Islam and Ali Abbas Shaheen, leaders of the anti-discrimination movement working with those injured in the July uprising, expressed their sorrow and distress.
Among these, one martyr’s family has a high unemployment rate and one martyr’s family has not yet received a government savings certificate.
In addition, the 7 martyr families of Golapganj demand that a memorial be built in the name of these 7 heroes in the local municipality area. Moreover, they allege that so far these 7 families have not received any government facilities.
After hearing the demands and complaints, NCP chief Nahid Islam assured full cooperation and urged the concerned departments to take immediate action in these matters.
Top leaders of NCP Sylhet district and metropolis were present at the meeting.
Later, on behalf of Sylhet district and metropolis NCP, district chief coordinator Nazim Uddin Shahan arranged for the families of the martyrs to be entertained.
