Asian Cricket Council (ACC) President Mohsin Naqvi on Thursday stated an official announcement regarding the 2025 Asia Cup is expected soon, pending the resolution of a few remaining matters with the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Speaking to reporters after the first day of the ACC Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dhaka, Naqvi said the discussions with India are ongoing and positive progress has been made.
“That will also be announced soon [regarding Asia Cup],” Naqvi said.
“We are in the consolidation with BCCI. We will hopefully resolve it also very soon. We discussed it and we have decided that myself and Aminul bhai [BCB president Aminul Islam Bulbul] have some issues resolved and we will get it done as soon as possible.”
Earlier, Indian media outlets reported that the Asia Cup 2025 is scheduled to begin on September 5, with the final likely to be held on September 21. According to those reports, the United Arab Emirates will host the tournament, with Dubai and Abu Dhabi being considered as the two venues.
The official confirmation of these details is still pending and appears to hinge on the ongoing discussions between ACC and BCCI.
Naqvi, who also serves as the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) President, expressed his satisfaction with the success of the AGM and appreciated the warm hospitality provided by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB).
“First of all, the AGM meeting went very well. We have 25 members in ACC and all 25 members participated in the meeting. Second thing is I am thankful to all the members who came here and all the members who attended the meeting through Zoom.”
“I really want to thank Aminul bhai for his hospitality. The way they looked after us, we had amazing two days. It was very memorable and on behalf of the ACC, I want to thank for the way they have organized everything.”
“Last thing is, we have all decided to work for cricket. None of us wants politics inside any of our organizations and it was a very good meeting in a very good atmosphere. I hope we will continue meeting like this in future as well.”
