Law Adviser Dr Asif Nazrul on Thursday reaffirmed the government’s commitment to full transparency in handling the aftermath of the military jet crash in Dhaka’s Uttara, warning that spreading misinformation is a serious offense.

Speaking to reporters at the Foreign Service Academy, he said, “All developments are being handled with complete transparency. The media remains free and active. But spreading unverified or false information is a serious crime.”

Dr Nazrul urged journalists and media outlets to report responsibly, highlighting that misinformation can cause widespread confusion during such national tragedies. He added that the government’s information channels remain open to the public to ensure everyone has access to accurate updates.

Regarding reactions from the public, especially from Milestone School and College where the crash occurred, the Law Adviser said, “Students and their guardians have been cooperative overall, though some frustration is understandable. We do not take it negatively.”

Local Government Adviser Asif Mahmud and Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam also joined the briefing.

Meanwhile, the death toll from the crash rose to 30 on Thursday after 15-year-old Mahtab, who suffered 85% burns, died at 1:52 pm while undergoing treatment at the ICU of the National Institute of Burn and Plastic Surgery, the Health Ministry confirmed.

In addition, 56 people remain under treatment at various hospitals: 44 at the Burn Institute, 21 at Dhaka CMH, and one each at Kuwait Bangladesh Friendship Government Hospital, Shaheed Monsur Ali Medical College Hospital, and Uttara Adhunik Medical College Hospital.

On Wednesday, the government released the names of those who died or were injured in the tragic Bangladesh Air Force aircraft crash.
