Hasnat calls adviser appointment ‘Brotherhood Quota’

Hasnat Abdullah, chief organiser for the southern region of the Jatiya Nagorik Party (NCP), has called for the resignation of the current health adviser, accusing her appointment of being a product of nepotism linked to Dr Muhammad Yunus.

Addressing a rally at the Chandpur bus stand, Abdullah criticised the adviser’s performance, describing it as inadequate and unworthy of the position. “This health adviser was appointed through what can only be described as a ‘brotherhood quota’ connected to Dr Yunus,” he said. “We have repeatedly stated that there is no need for this position.

Her salary and use of a government vehicle are unjustifiable, especially given her apparent lack of understanding of healthcare and the medical system. Her sole qualification appears to be her association with Grameen Bank and her close ties to Dr Yunus.”

Abdullah also broadened his critique to encompass alleged corruption during the tenure of the Awami League government under Sheikh Hasina, linking it to recent military aviation accidents and infrastructure failures.

“Planes are crashing and buildings are collapsing – this is not the Bangladesh we want,” he said. “Many of the aircraft involved were procured during Hasina’s administration amid widespread embezzlement. It is imperative that the safety of our air force personnel and the reliability of their equipment be thoroughly reviewed.”

He concluded by urging citizens from all political backgrounds to unite against what he termed “Awami fascism.” “While we mourn these tragedies, we will resist any attempts by the Awami League to exploit this moment to consolidate power,” Abdullah added.

Other NCP leaders, including chief coordinator Nasiruddin Patwary and northern region chief organiser Sarjis Alam, also spoke at the rally.
