NN Online:

BNP Standing Committee Member Salahuddin Ahmed has confirmed that the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP) was not officially invited to Jamaat-e-Islami’s national rally held at Suhrawardy Udyan on Saturday, July 19.

The clarification came through BNP media cell member Shairul Kabir Khan, who told Jago News, “Salahuddin Ahmed said that no one from BNP has been officially invited to this Jamaat rally.”

Responding to the matter, Jamaat-e-Islami’s Nayeb-e-Amir Dr Syed Abdullah Mohammad Taher explained the party’s approach to the event’s guest list.

“We invited parties that support the proportional representation system,” he said, indicating that invitations were extended selectively based on political alignment.

The absence of a BNP invitation highlights ongoing tensions and strategic differences within Bangladesh’s broader opposition landscape, particularly at a time when the interim government is focused on implementing the July Charter and setting the stage for upcoming elections.

While Jamaat seeks to strengthen alliances with parties sharing its reform agenda, BNP’s exclusion underscores the complex dynamics at play among opposition forces vying for influence in the evolving political transition.
