Jamaat-e-Islami Ameer Dr Shafiqur Rahman on Saturday called for a fresh national movement—this time against corruption and extortion—following what he described as last year’s successful struggle against fascism.

Speaking at a massive rally at Suhrawardy Udyan in the capital, Dr Shafiqur said the future of Bangladesh depends on eradicating corruption through unity and youth-led mobilisation.

“There will be a second uprising. The first was against fascism; now, it will be against corruption,” he declared. “We will do whatever it takes to win this fight, and we will win it together, with the power of the youth.”

Vows of Transparency in Governance
Dr Shafiqur outlined a vision for a future Jamaat-led government that rejects privileges and promotes full financial accountability.

“If Allah wills and the people support us, and Jamaat forms the government, no MP or minister will accept government plots, ride tax-free vehicles, or directly handle public funds,” he said.
“Any funds received for official work must be accounted for transparently before the 180 million people of Bangladesh.”

He emphasized that corruption, extortion, and abuse of power would not be tolerated under Jamaat’s leadership.

“We will not engage in corruption, nor will we allow others to do so. This is the Bangladesh we want to build—one that is just, transparent, and free from exploitation.”

A Personal Message to the People
Dr Shafiqur said he was addressing the nation not merely as Jamaat’s Ameer, but as a fellow citizen committed to collective liberation.

“I come before you not as a leader, but as one of you—a friend to children, a brother to the youth, a companion to the elderly, and a voice for our mothers and sisters.”

He expressed deep regret at not being among those martyred during the 2024 political movement.

“I wish I could have been one of them. Pray that Allah grants me martyrdom in the struggle for justice.”

Demand for Justice and Systemic Change
The Jamaat leader demanded justice for victims of political violence, including the October 28, 2006 incidents, the Paltan and Shapla killings, the Pilkhana carnage, and other crackdowns—culminating in the deaths during the 2024 uprising.

“There can be no national stability without accountability. The blood of these martyrs cannot be ignored,” he said. “If the old system remains, then why did they sacrifice their lives? Bring them back, if you can. You can’t. That’s why a new system and a new Bangladesh must be created.”

Call to Unite for a New Bangladesh
In a passionate appeal, Dr Shafiqur urged people from all walks of life—children, students, workers, women, and businessmen—to join hands in building a country where justice, dignity, and safety prevail.

“Only a united nation can ensure the birth of a new Bangladesh—one that protects its people and delivers the justice they deserve.”
