13 get life term for Kishoreganj businessman murder

A court in Kishoreganj has sentenced 13 people, including 12 from the same family, to life imprisonment for killing businessman named Syed Ali at Karimganj of Kishoreganj on Thursday.
They have also been fined Tk 10,000 each, and in default of payment, sentenced to six months of rigorous imprisonment.
The Senior District & Sessions Judge Md. Nurul Amin Biplob announced the verdict. Public Prosecutor (PP) of Kishoreganj district, advocate Md. Jalal Uddin confirmed this matter.
The convicts are Abdur Rauf Alfatun (69), Kalam Munshi (64), Alauddin Member (59), Azizul Haque Elam (54) and Ayatul Haque (52), the five sons of the deceased Abdul Karim of Deopur Kazlahati village in Karimganj. In addition, two sons of the convict Alfatun are Anwar Hossain Angur Mia (45) and Haider Ali (37), two sons of the convict Alauddin Member are Roel (39) and Russell alias Choton (36), Alauddin Member’s younger brother Sohel (41), Azizul Haque’s sons Ashiq Ahmed Hridoy (34) and Riyad (32) and Abdul Qayyum’s son Zahirul Islam Kala (44).
Accused Alfatun, Azizul Haque, Riyad, Ayatul Haque, Zahirul Islam, Kalam Munshi and Ashiq Ahmed Hridoy were present in the courtroom when the verdict was announced. The other six accused are absconding.
According to Case Diary (CD), he accused had a dispute over land with Syed Ali, a grocer from the same village. On the afternoon of March 23, 2016, the accused attacked him with country-made weapons including knives and sticks at Niamatpur Bazar in Karimganj, seriously injuring him. Syed Ali then died on March 29 while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital. In the attack on Syed Ali, his elder sister Parveen Sultana filed an attempt-to-murder case with Karimganj Police Station on March 25.
