BNP demands action over Gopalganj violence

NN Online:

BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir has strongly condemned the violent attack on the National Citizen Party’s (NCP) “March to Gopalganj” rally and called for swift, stern action against those responsible.

In a statement issued Tuesday, Fakhrul described the incident as a “heinous act of terrorism” by what he termed “fascist Awami League militants.” He expressed grave concern over the escalation of political violence following the fall of the Awami League government in a student-led uprising.

“The barbaric assault on the NCP’s programme in Gopalganj—marked by cocktail explosions, arson of vehicles, including those of the UNO and police, and injuries to law enforcers—is part of a deliberate attempt to destabilise the country,” he said.

Fakhrul warned that Awami League-backed elements were taking advantage of the current fragile law-and-order situation to fuel unrest and sabotage the interim government.

“There is no alternative but to deal with these criminals with an iron fist,” he stated.

Calling for national unity, Fakhrul urged citizens from all political and professional backgrounds to come together to defend democracy, voting rights, and the country’s sovereignty.

“If we fail to resist the resurgence of fascism, the nation’s independence and sovereignty will once again be at serious risk,” he warned.

The BNP leader demanded the immediate arrest and exemplary punishment of those involved in the Gopalganj attack and extended wishes for the speedy recovery of injured police personnel.
