After attack, Sarjis pledges to end Mujibism

NN Online:
Following a violent assault on the National Citizen Party (NCP) convoy in Gopalganj on Wednesday, July 16, 2025, the party’s northern region chief coordinator, Sarjis Alam, issued a fiery statement on Facebook, vowing to “build a grave for Mujibism” if he survives.

The attack, reportedly carried out by supporters of the banned Awami League, has turned Gopalganj into a tense political flashpoint. After the NCP’s motorcade came under assault post-rally, Sarjis condemned both the attackers and the apparent inaction of the police.

“In Gopalganj, murderer Hasina’s agents attacked us while the police stood by, watching,” he posted. “If we survive, we will return to bury Mujibabad. Otherwise, we won’t return.”

Calling on citizens nationwide, Sarjis appealed for a mass mobilization in Gopalganj, urging students and residents to rise against what he described as political oppression and the remnants of Mujibism—the ideology linked to the Awami League.

His statement underscores rising tensions between the opposition NCP and the state apparatus in a region closely associated with the country’s ruling political legacy.
