Plots on to minus Tarique from politics
Staff Reporter :
BNP Secretary General Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir on Sunday alleged that a deliberate and sinister campaign is underway, aimed at dismantling the nationalist political forces and removing Tarique Rahman from the political landscape.
Speaking at a book unveiling event held at a city hotel, Mirza Fakhrul said, “A well-orchestrated propaganda drive is in motion.
This is not coincidental-it is rooted in a calculated plot to discredit Bangladesh’s nationalist movement and tarnish the image of Tarique Rahman, a promising and rising political figure.”
The event marked the launch of a book titled ‘Tarique Rahman: The Hope of Bangladesh’, edited by Jatiyatabadi Krishak Dal General Secretary Shahidul Islam Babul.
Mirza Fakhrul claimed that BNP is currently the target of an intense and coordinated cyber onslaught intended to destabilize the party and erode its credibility.
“What’s most alarming is that, for the first time, our leader Tarique Rahman is being attacked directly by name. A smear campaign is being conducted to destroy his public image-this is deeply concerning,” he said.
Calling for a swift investigation into the recent killings in Old Dhaka, Fakhrul shifted focus to the need for ideological grounding within the party. He emphasized that BNP’s youth must be politically educated and well-versed in the party’s core philosophy. “Without this foundation, they cannot claim their rightful space in the political arena.”
Reflecting on the party’s long-standing fight for democracy, Fakhrul admitted that during these struggles, many members failed to deepen their understanding of BNP’s ideological goals. “Had that not been the case, we wouldn’t be hearing the kinds of misguided comments we’re hearing today,” he remarked.
He urged nationalist cyber activists to expand their presence online, mobilize more young people, and promote a merit-driven political culture in digital spaces. “A major weakness in BNP is our poor reading habit. This must change. Knowledge is our weapon-we need to read extensively, understand different perspectives, and respond intelligently.”
Fakhrul stressed that the party’s future battle must be fought not just with emotion, but with intellect and strategic thinking. “There’s no substitute for merit. We must empower our young cyber activists to lead with knowledge and critical thinking.”
He acknowledged the significant role BNP-aligned online activists and bloggers played during earlier movements, vowing that the party would continue to stand with them.
Recognizing the growing impact of social media alongside traditional platforms, Fakhrul conceded that BNP’s digital footprint remains weak. “We have to strengthen our online presence. Youth leadership is essential in this mission,” he concluded.
The newly launched book portrays Tarique Rahman’s political evolution, his resilience during the 1/11 political crackdown, and his vision for state-building. Fakhrul described him as a guiding force behind BNP’s future direction and a symbol of hope for the country.
