Executive magistracy power extended

The government has extended the special executive magistracy powers of Bangladesh Armed Forces officers, holding the rank of Captain and above, for another two months (60 days).
A notification to this effect was issued by the Ministry of Public Administration on Sunday (13 July).
According to the gazette, commissioned officers of the Bangladesh Armed Forces including those deputed to the Coast Guard
and Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) will continue to exercise special executive magistracy powers under Sections 12(1) and 17 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC).
This authority will remain in effect for 60 days from 14 July and can be exercised nationwide.
Under this extension, military magistrates can try offences under various sections of the CrPC, including Sections 64, 65, 83, 84, 86, 95(2), 100, 105, 107, 109, 110, 126, 127, 128, 130, 133, and 142.
Notably, the armed forces were first granted this authority on 17 September last year, and since then, the tenure has been regularly extended every two months.
