NN Online:
Begum Rokeya University (BRU), Rangpur, will commemorate the first martyrdom anniversary of student Abu Sayed and observe ‘July Shaheed Day’ on July 16 with a series of solemn events.

In preparation, the university has restricted entry to all outsiders from Sunday 7pm until 9am on Wednesday, July 16, to ensure strict security. Only students, faculty, officials, and staff with valid ID cards will be allowed on campus during this period.

Abu Sayed is remembered as the first martyr of last year’s anti-discrimination movement. His father, Mokbul Hossain, will attend the main event as chief guest.

Additional police forces have been deployed, and university departments have been instructed to issue temporary ID cards to first-year students without official IDs, said BRU Proctor Ferdous Rahman.

The July 16 programme will feature several high-profile guests, including four government advisers:

Law Adviser Prof Dr Asif Nazrul, Education Adviser Prof Dr Chowdhury Rafiqul Abrar, Environment Adviser Syeda Rizwana Hasan, Liberation War Affairs Adviser Faruk-E-Azam

Also expected are UGC Chairman Prof Dr SMA Faiz, Education Ministry Senior Secretary Siddique Zobair, UGC Member Prof Dr Tanzimuddin Khan, and 21 family members of other martyrs.

BRU Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Md Showkat Ali emphasized the need for a secure and orderly campus, noting the significance of the occasion and the presence of dignitaries.
